President Tsai Ing-wen unveiled the plaque for the Industry Academia Innovation School of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Dec. 21, spotlighting the government’s commitment to making the country an integral part of global supply chains.

According to Tsai, the IAIS is the first research institute established through industry-academia cooperation in Taiwan. To ensure the leading position of the country’s semiconductor industry, cultivating the next generation of high-tech talent remains the government’s top priority, she added.

The administration is leaving no stone unturned in this regard, as demonstrated by the passing of the act for National Key Fields Industry-University Cooperation and Skilled Personnel Training in May, Tsai said at the unveiling, adding that enhanced public-private cooperation is key to increasing the research and development capacity of the country’s technology industry.

Other high-profile attendees at the event included Premier Su Tseng-chang, Minister without Portfolio and Cabinet Spokesperson Lo Ping-cheng, Minister of Education Pan Wen-chung, Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien, Acer Honorary Chairman Stan Shih and NYCU President Lin Chi-hong.

Tsai also took the opportunity to thank the semiconductor industry for their involvement in and provision of funding for the institute in northern Taiwan, as well as NYCU for their long-term commitment to innovation research and fostering talents. (DL-E)
