Taiwan has rolled out a new type of digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate compatible with the SMART Health Card, according to the Cabinet-level Central Epidemic Command Center.
Since joining the U.S.-led Vaccination Credential Initiative May 20, the Ministry of Health and Welfare can issue digital vaccination certificates in the new format, the CECC said.
The Digital COVID-19 Certificate system was updated to include the issuance of such certificates as of 8 a.m. on July 14, the center added.
According to the CECC, the newly added format can be used for travel to Canada, Japan, the Australian city of Sydney, certain states in the U.S. and other places where there is frequent travel to and from Taiwan.
The three-step digital certificate application process remains the same, and the system supports downloads to an iOS or Android phone with one click, the CECC said, adding that the digital verification program can now verify both the EU and SHC formats.
Latest CECC statistics confirm 4,215,200 COVID-19 cases and 8,031 deaths in Taiwan. (DL-E)
