Taiwan is committed to implementing the Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030, according to the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture Aug. 26.

COA Minister Chen Chi-chung said the government will work with other Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation members on the Roadmap 2030 in digitalization and innovation, productivity, inclusivity, sustainability and public-private partnerships among others. Taiwan plans to jointly adopt farming practices and policies that reduce food loss and waste and minimize the impact of climate change, while organizing conferences on topics that combine digitalization and innovation.

Chen made the remarks at the seventh APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security chaired by Thailand Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chalermchai Sri-on.

According to Chen, Taiwan has established digital databases allowing authorities to closely monitor agricultural production areas, amounts, distribution, imports, inventories and prices to assess supply and demand on a rolling basis and implement policies necessary to stable food supply.

Since joining APEC in 1991, Taiwan has made substantial contributions in areas such as disaster prevention, food security, information communication technology, small and medium enterprise development, and women’s economic empowerment. (DL-E)
