A cross-party Senate delegation from France arrived Sept. 7 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport for a six-day visit to the country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Led by Cyril Pellevat, vice president of the Senate’s European Affairs Committee, the group comprises Olivier Cadic, Alain Marc, Pierre-Antoine Levi and Brigitte Devesa.

Key events on the delegation’s itinerary include an audience with Vice President Lai Ching-te, as well as meetings with Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun and Control Yuan President Chen Chu.

The MOFA said the delegation is the fourth in 12 months from the French Parliament to travel to Taiwan following those in June this year and December and October last year. The trip underscores a shared commitment to deepening friendship and expanding exchanges across the board, the ministry added.

Pellevat, who is visiting Taiwan for the third time, is a true friend and firm supporter of the country, the MOFA said. This is evidenced by a Formosa Club letter to Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, that the senator co-signed this year to reiterate backing for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly, the ministry added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “A warm #Taiwan welcome to @CyrilPellevat & his cross-party @Senat delegation of @OlivierCadic, Alain Marc, @PALevisenat & @DEVESA3. We wish our like-minded #France lawmakers a fruitful 6-day visit working together to promote peace, stability & prosperity in the #IndoPacific.” (DL-E)
