A hybrid workshop on digital economy opportunities and outlooks was staged under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework Nov. 21 in Israel, spotlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with partners in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Hosted by the Taipei and Economic Cultural Office in Tel Aviv, U.S. Embassy in Israel and Tel Aviv University’s Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center (ICRC), the daylong event marked the first time a GCTF workshop was hosted in the Middle East.

High-profile participants included Abby Ya-ping Lee, head of TECO in Tel Aviv; Lin Jiunn-shiow, deputy director-general of the Administration for Digital Industries under Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs; Stephanie Hallett, deputy chief of mission of the U.S. Embassy in Israel; and Gili Drob-Heistein, executive director of ICRC.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions focused on the challenges of economic transformation in the digital era, with attendees sharing their respective experiences, proposing digital solutions and touching on supply chain resilience.

Launched in June 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S. as a platform for multilateral cooperation among like-minded partners, GCTF has hosted 55 workshops for over 6,000 participants from about 100 countries and territories. Since 2021, GCTF-affiliated events have also been held outside the founding countries to deepen cooperation in Africa, Europe, South Asia and the Caribbean. (DL-E)
