Taiwan has banned the exports of 52 additional high-tech products to Russia and Belarus as it continues to join global sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Jan. 4.

Effective immediately, exports of designated products—including nuclear energy substances, miscellaneous goods and materials, chemicals, and machine tools—will be subject to tighter controls because they can be used for military purposes, the MOEA said.

According to the MOEA, the expanded sanctions are in line with restrictions imposed by the EU and U.S. Applications for high-tech commodity export licenses to Russia and Belarus will be strictly limited, the ministry said.

The amendment follows last year’s announcement of expanded controls on 57 items exported to Russia and Belarus, the MOEA said. The EU, Japan, the U.K., the U.S. and other like-minded partners have successively announced similar measures against the two countries since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ministry added.
