The visit by an Israel parliamentary delegation is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aug. 3.
The cross-party group is led by Yorai Lahav Hertzanu, a member of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. Delegation members will exchange views with ministers and agencies on issues such as wildlife and environmental protection, the regional status quo, Taiwan’s political and economic development and its democratic and human rights achievements, according to the MOFA.
During their six-day stay, the group will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and have discussions with Control Yuan President Chen Chu, Digital Minister Audrey Tang and the Cabinet-level Environmental Protection Administration Minister Chang Tzi-chin.
The delegation will visit the Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the National Human Rights Commission, Taiwan External Trade Development Council and Institute for National Defense and Security Research based in Taipei City, as well as tour the Hsinchu Science Park in the northern Taiwan city.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Israel share universal values of freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the two countries’ mutual establishment of representative offices and the visit further demonstrates staunch support from the Knesset for Taiwan, the ministry said, adding that the government will continue deepening relationship between the two sides based on their solid cooperation.
