New Marshall Islands president congratulated by MOFA

The government and people of Taiwan extended their warmest congratulations Jan. 2 to Hilda C. Heine, who was elected the Marshall Islands’ next president by the country’s newly sworn-in senators, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Steve C.C. Hsia, ambassador of the ROC (Taiwan) to the Pacific ally, has conveyed a congratulatory message from President Tsai Ing-wen to Heine, the MOFA said. Taiwan will soon send an envoy to the Marshall Islands to congratulate the president and her new Cabinet members in person, the ministry added.
 
According to the MOFA, the Marshall Islands’ general election was held Nov. 20, 2023, in an open, transparent and peaceful manner, demonstrating the country’s commitment to the universal values of freedom, equality and democracy.
 
As a staunch ally, Taiwan will continue to work with the Marshall Islands in areas spanning climate change adaptation, food security, infrastructure, medical care and women’s empowerment to deepen bilateral friendship while maintaining peace, prosperity and stability in the Pacific, the ministry said.
 
On its official X account, the MOFA said, “Congratulations to #MarshallIslands on the election of its new president! We’re excited that @iingwen’s special envoy will soon visit the esteemed #Pacific ally to greet President-elect @Senator_Heine & express #Taiwan’s eagerness to further deepen our diplomatic ties.” (YCH-E)
