A delegation led by Terrance Drew, prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said June 22.
The prime minister, accompanied by his wife Diani Prince-Drew, Foreign Minister Denzil Douglas, Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley and other senior officials, was received by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung at Taoyuan International Airport.
According to the MOFA, this is Drew’s second visit in his current capacity. During the group’s five-day stay, President Lai Ching-te will receive the prime minister of the Caribbean ally with full military honors, hold a bilateral meeting with the delegation to discuss issues of mutual interest and host a state luncheon at the Presidential Office.
The group will also visit the Foreign Ministry and attend a banquet hosted by Lin, head south to tour the port city of Kaohsiung, and call on other key economic and cultural facilities.
The two sides have enjoyed a robust, steady relationship since establishing official ties in 1983, the MOFA said. The great success of bilateral cooperation has benefited people of both sides, especially in areas such as climate resilience, education, information communication technologies, medical care, sustainable development and women’s empowerment, the ministry added.
St. Kitts and Nevis is a strong supporter of Taiwan’s international participation, the MOFA said, citing the unanimous passage in its Parliament of resolutions backing Taiwan’s bid to join the U.N., Interpol, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the World Health Organization. (SFC-E)
