The Sports Administration announced July 4 the list of Taiwan athletes competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

According to the SA, the 60-member Team Taiwan will contest in 16 events: athletics, archery, badminton, boxing, breaking, canoeing, fencing, golf, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and weightlifting.

Among the high-profile athletes is Kuo Hsing-chun, who won gold and broke three records in women’s 59kg weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Badminton star Tai Tzu-ying is looking to improve on her silver medal performance from Tokyo, and so is Yang Yung-wei, who took home Taiwan’s first silver medal in men’s 60kg judo in Tokyo.

Other notable Olympians include badminton team Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin, who won gold in men’s doubles in Tokyo; 43-year-old table tennis veteran Chuang Chih-yuan, who finished fourth in men’s singles at the 2012 London Games and is competing in his sixth Games; and tennis player Hsieh Su-wei, who holds seven Grand Slam women’s doubles titles and one mixed doubles title.

The athletes will be accompanied by a 58-member support team of physical therapists, trainers, psychological consultants, nutritionists and other specialists, the SA said.

Team Taiwan performed well in the postponed 2020 Tokyo Games, earning two gold, four silver and six bronze medals in 18 events. (SFC-E)
