Liu Chin-ching, National Development Council minister led a delegation Aug. 26-27 to Lithuania, underscoring the government’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Europe.
In 2022, Taiwan government set up a 20-million-euro investment fund for central and eastern Europe, managed by Taiwania Capital. Since its inception, it has invested in three Lithuanian startups, Litilit, a laser company; Oxipit, a biomedicine corporation; and TransferGo, a financial technology firm.
Liu visited Litilit and was received by CEO Nikolajus Gavrilinas. During the meeting, Liu said Lithuania’s laser technology would facilitate the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor and biomedicine and encourage Taiwan business to adopt Lithuanian laser techniques.
The minister paid a visit to TransferGo Aug. 27 and was welcomed by CEO Daumantas Dvilinskas. Liu noted that with Lithuania’s advantage in financial technology, the company’s business model was also applicable to the Taiwan market.
Liu also visited Teltonika, a Lithuanian pioneer in electronics manufacturing services and was received by Ernestas Zdaniauskis, vice president of innovation and business development and joined by Karolis Žemaitis, Lithuania vice minister of the Economy and Innovation. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in semiconductors as well as Lithuania’s advances in the sector.
Additionally, Liu met with Žygimantas Pavilionis, deputy speaker of the Seimas; Matas Maldeikis, member of Seimas and chair of the Lithuania-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group and other legislators. The minister expressed willingness to assist Lithuania in establishing its semiconductor industry ecosystem.
After wrapping up his journey Aug. 27 in Lithuania, the minister and delegation then headed for the Czech Republic’s capital, Prague, to join another led by Executive Yuan Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin and National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen on a five-day mission to exchange views on important Taiwan-Czechia issues. Meetings scheduled with senior officials from the Czech Parliament and other governmental agencies show the importance attached to Taiwan business investment in the country.
The Czech Investment Agency, CzechInvest, will host a briefing on the commercial environment and investment incentives. The delegation will visit Usti, Brno and other regions to deepen cooperation between Taiwan and Czechia.
The NDC anticipates that democratic partnership, exploring investment opportunities for industry players and expanding the global layout of Taiwan’s semiconductor supply chain will inject new impetus into the joint development of the semiconductor industry in Europe. (POC-E)
