Former ROC Vice President Lien Chan is scheduled to meet with mainland Chinese leader Hu Jintao Sept. 7 on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting in Vladivostok, Russia.

Lien, who is serving as ROC President Ma Ying-jeou’s envoy to the meeting for the fifth straight year, said at a news conference that he will exchange views with Hu on Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) follow-up issues, including trade in goods and services and a dispute settlement mechanism.

He added that as the APEC summit is a multilateral meeting on economics and trade, discussing political issues would be inappropriate.

Lien said that during the event he will exchange ideas with other leaders on regional development and the state of the global economy, as well as lead a panel discussion at the CEO Summit, before returning to Taiwan Sept. 10.

The agenda of the 20th APEC Leaders’ Meeting, themed “Integrate to Grow, Innovative to Prosper,” includes such topics as enhancing food safety, establishing reliable supply chains, fostering innovative growth, promoting regional economic integration, and trade and investment liberalization.
