The Ministry of Culture and the Hakka Affairs Council showcased their recommended Taiwan tours for the upcoming 2024 Taipei International Travel Fair Oct. 29 at a news conference in Taipei City.
The MOC planned 10 routes themed around popular Taiwan films and TV series in collaboration with 17 local groups. One highlight is a tour of Hsinchu County in northern Taiwan that digs into the booming tea trade of the 1950s portrayed in “Gold Leaf,” which began airing in 2021.
Equally impressive is an itinerary introducing the southern city of Chiayi’s forestry culture represented in the 2014 sports drama “Kano,” which tells the story of an agricultural and forestry school’s baseball team competing in a Japanese championship, and a tour of Kaohsiung City that gives insight into the country’s festival culture as seen in the 2013 comedy “Zone Pro Site.”
Other routes center on the movies “Eat Drink Man Woman” (1994), “Grandma and Her Ghosts” (1998), “Secret” (2007), “Panay” (2015) and “My Missing Valentine” (2020), as well as TV series “Someday or One Day” (2019) and “Seqalu: Formosa 1867” (2021), according to the MOC. The productions are expected to serve as guides for travelers to immerse themselves in familiar scenes and make connections with local cultural and tourist attractions, the ministry added.
At the same news conference, the HAC revealed its pavilion theme, “Somewhere in Hakka,” and said it invited 27 travel agencies to present tours at the pavilion. An additional online version promotes over 100 Hakka travel itineraries, the council added.
The 2024 ITF will be held Nov. 1-4 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center and is set to feature 1,500 booths from 111 countries and territories. (YCH-E)
