A delegation from Taiwan attended the 2024 Global Environmental Education Partnership Advisory Committee Meeting Nov. 4-9 in the U.S. city of Pittsburgh, underscoring the country’s commitment to advancing environmental literacy at home and abroad.
Wu Ling-chu, executive officer of the Ministry of Environment’s Department of Environmental Protection, led the group comprising MOENV officials and representatives of environmental protection groups, including Re-Think co-founder Jason Huang. Participants hailed from 18 other countries, namely Australia, Austria, Botswana, Canada, Denmark, Guatemala, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Russia, Slovakia, the U.K. and the U.S., the DEP said.
In her remarks, Wu lauded efforts by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other global partners since the GEEP’s founding a decade ago, the department added.
According to the DEP, attendees reviewed the results of major GEEP initiatives, such as the establishment of regional centers in Africa and the Asia-Pacific, and discussed strategies to restore global ecosystems and advance environmental education.
Taiwan and the U.S. have enjoyed close collaboration in environmental protection since signing a technical cooperation pact in 1993. The two sides jointly launched the GEEP in 2014, and through related projects, Taiwan has shared achievements and established deep partnerships with countries around the world, the DEP concluded.
