ROC Deputy Minister of National Defense Andrew N.D. Yang met with U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter at the Pentagon in Washington Oct. 2 to exchange views on Taiwan-U.S. military affairs. The meeting took place after Yang led a delegation attending the 11th Taiwan-U.S. Defense Industry Conference in Hershey, Pa., earlier the same day. David Lo, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, said Oct. 3 that the U.S. views relations with Taiwan with importance and mutual trust exists between high-level officials from the two sides. “Taiwan-U.S. relations are the most stable and friendly that they have been over the past 30 years,” Lo said. The ministry will continue requesting that Washington sell it defensive military hardware according to the Taiwan Relations Act to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, he added. Yang and his delegation were scheduled to return to Taiwan on the afternoon of Oct. 2. (SB-THN)
