The ROC government will continue pushing for cross-strait institutionalized negotiations to expand bilateral exchanges across a wider spectrum while strengthening mutual trust, according to the Mainland Affairs Council March 17.
“Mainland China has recently proposed many reforms regarding its administration, economy and promotion of social justice,” a MAC official said. “We expect the two sides to cooperate on relevant reforms and development, further enhancing mutual trust and shared interests across the strait.”
The official’s remarks followed the conclusion of the National People’s Congress in Beijing earlier in the day, during which mainland Chinese officials elaborated on future cross-strait relations.
Taipei and Beijing should cherish their improved ties over the past five years as the achievements were hard won, the official said.
“The ROC is our country and Taiwan is our homeland. The two sides should uphold the spirit of mutual respect, benefit, and joint prosperity, working together for the well-being of the people, as well as peaceful and stable cross-strait relations.” (JSM)
