Solomon Islands Governor General Sir Frank Kabui is visiting Taiwan June 22 to June 26, during which he will meet ROC President Ma Ying-jeou to exchange views on cooperative projects, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. While in country Kabui will present the Cross of Solomon Islands, the nation’s highest civilian award, to C. K. Ning, first ROC ambassador to the Solomon Islands and James D. Chen, chairman of Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-ho Memorial Hospital, for their contribution to the South Pacific nation’s development.


ROC national Zeng Yu-jie took first prize at the June 13-16 Toronto Tattoo Show in the best large color tattoo category for his nine-tailed fox on a woman’s back. Zeng also won first prize for a male full-body tattoo at the March International Frankfurt Tattoo Convention in Germany.


Taiwan won 37 gold and 33 silver medals at the recent Invention and New Product Exposition in Pittsburgh, as well as the event’s second prize overall and award for the best invention from the Far East, coming second behind the U.S. in the overall standings. The exposition and those in Geneva and and Nuremberg are the world’s three most important invention shows. Of the more than 500 inventions from 20 countries, 89 came from Taiwan.


ROC Minister of Justice Tseng Yung-fu delivered an address at the annual summer meeting of the U.S. National Association of Attorneys General June 17 in Boston, detailing Taiwan’s efforts in complying with international standards and its achievements in crime fighting and human rights protection.
