The Coast Guard Administration under the ROC Executive Yuan will be dispatching the Hsun Hu No. 7 cutter to Kiribati July 11-13 to celebrate the Pacific ally’s 34th anniversary of independence and the 10th year since diplomatic relations were established. It will be the first time for a CGA vessel to visit a diplomatic ally.


Six Taiwan companies ranked in U.S.-based Fortune magazine’s list of the world’s top 500 companies, published July 8. They included Cathay Life Insurance Co., China Petroleum Corp., Formosa Petrochemical Corp., Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., Pegatron Corp. and Quanta Computer Inc. With annual revenues of US$132 billion, Hon Hai was 30th on the list, up 13 places from last year.


Steve C. Hsia, director general of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas, last month donated US$20,000 on behalf of Taiwan to victims of tornadoes in Oklahoma, the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs said July 9. The state was badly hit by twisters in May and June, with about 40 killed and more than 300 injured. (SDH)
