A short film highlighting the various attractions and urban vitality of Taipei was released May 25 as part of an official campaign aimed at promoting the city in the lead-up to the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade—the largest global sporting event ever staged in Taiwan.

“Taipei in Motion” blends athletic endeavors such as archery, judo and table tennis with a montage of the city’s iconic attractions like Grand Hotel, North Gate and Taipei 101. It also draws the curtain back on a number of sporting venues set to feature at the Aug. 19-30 games, as well as encapsulates the energy of Taipei through eclectic imagery captured using aerial photography and a high-speed camera.

The 90-second film is the third official short touting the metropolis’s readiness to welcome competitors and visitors from around the world to the event, according to Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee under Taipei City Government.

Another TUOC-released visual promotion proving popular is the music video for “Embrace the World with You,” the official Universiade theme song composed by local pop outfit I-Want and producer Ada Su in collaboration with British musician Howie B.

The lyrics of the song were written in Chinese and Paiwan, one of Taiwan’s indigenous languages, while the music is inspired by a traditional tribal song. Musical elements like Latin, rumba and techno are also featured so as to infuse the tune with powerful backbeats and up-tempo feel.

I-Want will perform during a special Universiade concert May 28 at Liberty Square of National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei. A highlight of the event involves the pop outfit and 1,000 volunteers performing “I am Here,” an emotive song inspired by the bravery of a 10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy.

Also known as the World University Games, the Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival staged every two years in a different city worldwide. The 29th edition of the games in Taipei involves 7,700-plus student athletes from 153 countries contesting 21 sports at 38 competition venues in Taipei, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, New Taipei and Taoyuan cities.
