The Central Epidemic Command Center and Taipei City Government both announced a loosening of restrictions on hospital visits and social gatherings May 25 as Taiwan continues its streak without a locally transmitted coronavirus infection.

Effective immediately, scheduled visits to psychiatric wards are allowed on the condition that visitors provide their real names, contact details and travel histories, the CECC said.

Visitors must have their temperatures checked and hands sanitized before entering any health facility, and must wear a face mask for the duration of their stay, it added.

CECC head Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung said the government is also planning to lift its ban on exports and domestic retail sales of surgical masks in June.

According to TCG, indoor and outdoor activities in the capital involving less than 250 and 1,000 individuals, respectively, can resume June 1, as long as participants follow social distancing guidelines. Buffet-style food must not be served at any events, and all attendees at indoor proceedings must provide their real names and contact information.

Latest statistics from the CECC reveal 441 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan as of May 25, with seven deaths. Among these, 416 cases have been treated and discharged from hospital. (SFC-E)
