Linhousilin Forest Park is set for inauguration June 14 in southern Taiwan with a series of community-focused celebrations, according to Pingtung Forest District Office.

Activities at the first forest park on the Pingtung Plain include a cycling tour involving 1,000-plus participants and performances by renowned Taiwan oboe player Casper Tsai, as well as local bands like Jump and Streams in the Desert.

PFDO Director Huang Miao-hsiu said the park, which covers 1,005 hectares, boasts a variety of attractions including an area for water activities, gardens, hiking trails, installation art and an outdoor performance stage.

“The first stage of the park comprises 85 hectares planted with close to 240,000 trees from more than 20 species,” Huang said. “Staff labored mightily to deal with the unforgiving soil and cultivate the trees.

“Tourists can also enjoy a view of the county’s majestic Da Wu Mountain from the park,” he added.

Part of the i-Taiwan 12 Projects launched by the ROC government in 2009, the park is the last of three to be completed under the initiative. The others are in Hualien and Chiayi counties. (DF-JSM)
