The Taiwan Arts Festival is set to kick off Oct. 4 in Hong Kong, providing a six-week showcase of the country’s diverse cultural and creative industry.

Organized by Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Center under the Ministry of Culture and running through Nov. 19, this year’s festival is titled “Together Taiwan.” It comprises three main sections — The Masters: Refined by Time, The Platform: Interactions of Collaborations and The New: Voices of Diversity.

Highlights include screenings of restored Taiwan films and the latest work by renowned auteur Tsai Ming-liang backed by improvised musical performances inspired by Taiwan and Hong Kong cinema, as well as a series of collaborative art displays.

This year’s festival is about bringing people from Taiwan and Hong Kong together, said KHICC’s acting director Linda Lu. Such events serve to deepen cultural exchanges between the two sides, she added.

According to Kao Ming-tsun, acting head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hong Kong, the festival has been a source of countless surprises and moving moments, making it an event that Hongkongers eagerly look forward to every year.

First held in 2006, Taiwan Arts Festival is one of the largest cultural events in Hong Kong. It serves as a platform to further mutual understanding through a variety of exhibitions, film screenings, performances, seminars and workshops. (RAY-E)
