President Tsai expresses condolences over London tube attack

President Tsai Ing-wen expressed Sept. 15 her condolences to the British government over the explosion the same day of a device on a London Underground train that left a number of passengers with injuries.
 
Taiwan stands shoulder to shoulder with Great Britain in condemning and combating acts of terrorism, Tsai said, adding that the government wishes those affected by the incident a full and speedy recovery.
 
Tsai’s message was conveyed by Joseph Wu, secretary-general of the Office of the President, via telephone to Andrew Pittman, acting representative of the British Office Taipei.
 
According to U.K. media reports, the explosion took place during the morning rush hour on a District Line train at Parson’s Green Underground station in southwest London. The improvised device, which comprised a bucket in a carry bag with protruding wires, burst into flames leaving those closest with burns. (JSM)
