President Tsai Ing-wen said Jan. 7 that the government is sparing no effort in revitalizing Taiwan’s cultural industries.
This is evidenced by the upgrade of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute from an incorporated foundation to an administrative public entity, Tsai said. The institution will expand its efforts in restoring the country’s audiovisual heritage from films to other areas such as television and radio, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while attending the opening ceremony of a new TFAI building Jan. 7 in New Taipei City.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the new building comprises a library, a multi-purpose room, an exhibition gallery and other spaces. The occasion marks a very important milestone in Taiwan’s visual art history, as the facility aims to raise public awareness of the country’s audiovisual assets, the ministry added.
High-profile attendees at the event included Premier Su Tseng-chang, Cabinet Secretary-General Li Men-yen, Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih.
TFAI is the only administrative institution in Taiwan that specializes in the collection of audiovisual assets. It is committed to promoting audio-visual archives through digital restoration technology in order to preserve memories and history using the media of audio and video. (DL-E)
