The visit of a high-level bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation to Taiwan is welcomed by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 14.
Led by Sen. Lindsey Graham, ranking member of the Senate Committee on the Budget, the group comprises Sen. Robert Menendez, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Sen. Richard Burr; Sen. Robert Portman, ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; Sen. Benjamin Sasse; and Representative Ronny Jackson.
During the delegation’s two-day trip, members will receive an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen and Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng. They will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu.
The MOFA said the group’s visit is the first of its kind from the U.S. this year, and significant given the war in Ukraine. It further underscores the importance the U.S. attaches to bilateral relations and its unwavering commitment to Taiwan.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “Minister Wu gave a warm #Taiwan welcome to @LindseyGrahamSC & his delegation of like-minded #US lawmakers comprising @SenatorMenendez, @SenatorBurr, @senrobportman, @SenSasse & @RepRonnyJackson. We wish our country's good friends & rock-solid supporters a productive visit.” (DL-E)
