National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin received a Lithuanian economic and technology delegation Sept. 12 in Taipei City to discuss bilateral cooperation in key sectors.
Arriving Sept. 10 and led by Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation Karolis Zemaitis, the 28-member group comprises officials and business representatives from the EU member state’s biotechnology and laser industries.
During the meeting, Kung said two-way economic and trade ties have been advancing apace since his visit to Lithuania in last October, citing his virtual meeting with Minister of the Economy and Innovation Ausrine Armonaite in January, as well as his reception of Zemaitis’s predecessor Jovita Neliupsiene in June in Taipei.
Other key developments during the period include helping the Baltic state enhance its manufacturing capacities and cultivate talent in the semiconductor industry, as well as strengthening collaboration in key technical industries, he added.
Based on the two sides’ shared democratic values and mutual trust, Taiwan and Lithuania will continue to explore cooperative opportunities for mutually beneficial developments, Kung said.
In response, Zemaitis said the Taiwan-Lithuania relationship is at a historical high point, as evidenced by the Taiwan visits of four deputy ministers from his country in the past three months.
The vice minister also introduced Paulius Lukauskas, the new representative to Taiwan, and thanked the NDC for its efforts in promoting bilateral ties. The partners are expected to continue leveraging their shared values to achieve more progress going forward, he added.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group’s five-day itinerary also includes a banquet hosted by MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and a visit to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as engagements with research institutions and enterprises. (SFC-E)
