More branches of foreign nongovernmental organizations have been established in Taiwan as part of the government’s commitment to deepening the country’s ties with the democratic world, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nov. 1.
Following the opening of branches of U.S.-based National Democratic Institute and International Republican Institute and Germany-based Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, this year's additions include U.S.-based Freedom House, Czech-based European Values Center, Spain-based Safeguard Defenders and Japan-based Terra Renaissance, the MOFA said.
The Reform for Resilience (R4R) Asia-Pacific Hub has also completed registration for its Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation and will set up its headquarters in Taiwan, the ministry added.
According to the MOFA, this positive development reflects global recognition of Taiwan’s mature democracy and ongoing government cultivation of the country as a friendly and stable partner.
The government will continue providing all necessary assistance to foster a convenient and free environment for foreign NGOs, the MOFA said, adding that international community is welcome to expand operations in Taiwan. (DL-E)
