The delegation led by the Marshall Islands Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Kitlang Kabua to Taiwan is sincerely welcomed by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said April 11.
The group, which arrived April 12, also includes Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Anjanette Kattil. Over the course of seven days, members of the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and sign an agreement with Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu on diplomatic personnel training and cooperation, as well as a memorandum of understanding on funding climate change mitigation efforts.
The delegates will be honored with a banquet hosted by Wu and Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang. They will also call on the Cabinet-level Council of Indigenous Peoples, Taichung City Government, and the Taipei City-based organizations International Cooperation and Development Fund and the Foundation for Women’s Rights Promotion and Development.
Members of the delegation are scheduled to tour key cultural landmarks like Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in the capital, along with the Sapulju tribal community in southeastern Taiwan’s Taitung County.
According to the MOFA, since the two countries established official ties in 1998, bilateral collaboration has spanned such fields as agriculture, clean energy, education, fishery, infrastructure, information and communications technology, medical care, public health and women’s empowerment.
The Pacific ally is a long-term supporter of Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the U.N., the World Health Organization and International Civil Aviation Organization, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
