A workshop on multilateral anti-corruption engagement held under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework by Taiwan, the U.S., Japan, Australia, the U.K. and Canada got underway June 13 in Taipei City.

The event is jointly organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice in collaboration with local representative offices of the five partner countries and Washington-based National Democratic Institute.

According to the MOFA, around 200 academics, experts, officials and nongovernmental organization representatives from 14 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Indo-Pacific are taking part in the three-day event.

Key topics of discussion range from public-private collaboration, cross-border law enforcement and mutual judicial assistance to the application of digital technologies, the ministry said. Other areas of interest include promoting transparent governance and civic engagement.

By highlighting the progress of related government initiatives, the event also underscores Taiwan’s commitment to working with international partners to build anti-corruption capacity around the world, it added.

Since its launch in June 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S.—with Japan and Australia joining later—the GCTF has become a critical platform for the four sides to contribute to global problem-solving and share expertise with regional stakeholders, the MOFA said.

Under the initiative, a total of 59 workshops have been organized for over 6,500 participants from 125 countries and territories on topics spanning energy cooperation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, media literacy, public health and women’s empowerment, the ministry added. (SFC-E)
