Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu met with a delegation of permanent representatives to the U.N. from Taiwan’s allies Nov. 15 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The group consists of Inga Rhonda King of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Amatlain Elizabeth Kabua of the Marshall Islands, Margo Reminisse Deiye of Nauru, Carlos Fuller of Belize, and Jose Eduardo Pereira Sosa of Paraguay.

Wu expressed appreciation to the allies for staunchly supporting Taiwan in U.N. mechanisms, meetings and activities, including their leaders’ and senior government officials’ remarks during the body’s General Assemblies.

According to Wu, Taiwan, a force for good and responsible member of the international community, is attracting global attention amid current regional tensions.

The country is a front-line state in the fight against authoritarian expansion, Wu said, adding that the government has refrained from provoking China and remains nonaggressive despite Beijing’s cognitive warfare and military intimidation. Taiwan is committed to enhancing its self-defense capabilities to safeguard cross-strait peace and stability, the minister added.

Following Wu’s remarks, King said the visit is helping delegation members gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s policies and achievements. She praised the country for embodying the spirit of the U.N. Charter and pledged to continue supporting its bid to join U.N. specialized agencies.

Kabua reaffirmed recognition of Taiwan’s efforts to maintain the status quo across the Taiwan Strait, while Deiye and Sosa said they have learned more about the country’s development during the current visit. Fuller took the opportunity to praise Taiwan’s key role in the international community.

The MOFA said all group members agreed with Wu’s remarks and stressed the absurdity of China’s misinterpretation of U.N. Resolution 2758 and the false claim that Taiwan is part of its territory. They additionally exchanged views with Wu on their respective bilateral relationships and expressed gratitude to the country for its assistance in spurring sustainable development, the ministry added.
