A visit from Gustavo Villate, Paraguay’s minister of information and communication technology, is enthusiastically received by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said March 17.

According to the MOFA, Villate’s group includes Jorge Daniel Duarte Rolón, president of the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University. During their stay, which is ongoing until March 21, the contingent will see Taiwan’s economic and scientific development firsthand.

The delegates will meet with Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, attend a luncheon hosted by Vice Foreign Minister Remus Li-kuo Chen, and visit the Ministry of Digital Affairs’ Administration for Cyber Security, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s National Health Insurance Administration and the National Science and Technology Council, among others. They will also attend the 2024 Smart City Summit & Expo and the 2050 Net Zero City Expo.

The delegation will further venture to the northern city of Hsinchu to pay visits to the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute, Hsinchu Science Park and Industrial Technology Research Institute.

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and his cabinet have repeatedly demonstrated their support for Taiwan’s global participation during international meetings or interviews with media. The MOFA vowed that Taiwan would continue to assist its South American ally in enhancing technology and industry transitions for the mutual benefit of the citizens of both countries. (POC-E)
