The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the recent terror attacks in Spain, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Two ROC nationals were reported injured and a close eye is being kept on the situation by the ministry through the country’s representative office in Spain, the MOFA said Aug. 18, adding that the latest updates will be made available as soon as they come to hand.
Fourteen people were killed and more than 100 injured in twin vehicular attacks Aug. 17-18 in Barcelona and Cambrils, a seaside resort around 100 kilometers south of the Spanish city.
President Tsai Ing-wen expressed the same day her condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, according to the Office of the President. She also tweeted on her official Twitter account “I am saddened to hear of the terror attack in Barcelona. Taiwan stands together with Spain in this difficult time.”
Earlier in the day, Presidential Office Secretary-General Joseph Wu relayed Tsai’s sympathy and concern to the Spanish people in a call to Jose Luis Echaniz Cobas, head of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. (JSM)
