The Taiwan International Balloon Festival held every June in Taitung, southeastern Taiwan, was recently named one of the 12 amazing events of its kind around the world by U.S.-based Travel Channel, according to event organizer Taitung County Government Jan. 22.

Staged in the Luye Highlands under the auspices of the Tourism Bureau, the hot air balloon festival joins the ranks of other spectacular events including the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta of the U.S., Mondial Air Balloons of France and Saga International Balloon Fiesta of Japan.

Citing the unprecedented number of uniquely shaped balloons in 2017, Travel Channel said visitors can enjoy these spectacular attractions that are illuminated during special nighttime concerts.

According to the county government, since its launch in 2011, the annual show has welcomed more than four million visitors. It is also the longest duration ballooning event in the world, with the 2018 edition set to take place from June 30 to Aug. 6.

By combining exciting activities such as mooring flights over the beautiful East Rift Valley National Scenic Area, night glow concerts and samples of local agricultural products and cuisine, the festival has become a must-see event for visitors from home and abroad, the local government added.
