A record number of exhibitors and officials from home and abroad are set to attend the 2018 Smart City Summit and Expo March 27-30 in Taipei City, highlighting Taiwan’s world-leading expertise in intelligent urban solutions and trends.
According to organizer Taipei City Government, the exhibition will feature 1,050 booths by 210 domestic and foreign enterprises and local governments, while the summit is expected to draw some 120 mayors and municipal representatives from 33 countries and territories. This year’s edition of the largest IoT and smart city trade show in Asia will focus on innovations in the education, health care and intelligent building sectors and include 63 keynote speeches and forums.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-rong said municipalities across Taiwan have accumulated extensive experience in using smart city technologies to shape better living environments. This event provides a great opportunity to spotlight the nation’s innovative digital solutions and foster international exchanges in the field, he added.
According to Lin, TCG will set up 42 booths at the expo to display the city’s intelligent applications in such areas as disaster prevention, energy efficiency, medical services, public housing and transportation. The local government is also planning to launch the Global Organization of Smart Cities so as to bolster interactions between local and overseas cities and enterprises, he said, adding that this network will work to promote best practices and improve urban living conditions worldwide.
Launched in 2014, the annual event in Taipei aims to boost the development of smart city technologies by promoting professional exchanges and providing a platform to showcase the latest advances in the field. Last year’s edition drew 56 mayors and municipal officials from 29 countries and attracted 23,421 visitors from home and abroad.
Taiwan is a global leader in intelligent city solutions. Taipei and central Taiwan’s Taichung won the Intelligent Community of the Year award from New York-headquartered think tank IC Forum in 2006 and 2013, respectively, while Chiayi and Tainan cities in southern Taiwan and Taoyuan City in northern Taiwan are among the seven finalists worldwide for this year’s prize.
