Winners of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition will be honored at special presentation ceremony organized by the Ministry of Education Dec. 6 in Taipei City.

A total of 74 designs selected from a 21,988-strong field produced by 810 universities in 66 countries and territories are to be recognized with certificates and prizes for outstanding creative concepts encapsulating Empathy—the theme of the 12th edition of the event.

Staged by the MOE with support from state-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute, iSee Taiwan Foundation and Sayling Wen Cultural and Educational Foundation, the competition was judged by a panel of leading industry luminaries hailing from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Macao, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

The highly coveted grand prix and a cash prize of NT$400,000 (US$13,000) went to students from National University of Singapore for “The Dyslexperience,” a book tailored for those with reading disabilities.

Local talents were not absent from the podium. The gold prize for digital animation was awarded to a trio from National Taiwan University of Arts for the emotionally charged “The Sea Within the Room.”

Students from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Ming Chi University of Technology followed suit with gold in brand specified for a smart firefighter's visor.

According to the MOE, organizer of TISDC since 2008, the event is one of the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the world. (Ray-E)
