Tertiary students from low- and low-to-moderate coronavirus risk countries Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Sri Lanka are permitted to enter Taiwan effective July 8 as per the latest Central Epidemic Command Center directive.
Upon landing, the enrolled and graduating students must undergo temperature and basic health screenings before taking designated vehicles to approved lodgings. They will commence 14-day self-quarantines and return to school after passing final medical assessments.
Prior to departure, all students need to show airline counter staff notification letters issued by relevant colleges or universities in Taiwan. In addition, they must complete Quarantine System for Entry procedures.
According to the Ministry of Education, the measure is part of government efforts to maintain the momentum of international exchanges in the post-pandemic new life. Students from 18 countries and territories are now approved to enter Taiwan and continue their education, the MOE said.
Restrictions were lifted July 1 on graduating students from Cambodia and Laos. This followed the earlier greenlighting of arrivals from Australia, Bhutan, Brunei, Fiji, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, New Zealand, Palau, Thailand and Vietnam.
