Yehliu Geopark in Wanli District of New Taipei City is offering free night tours until Oct. 4 as part of efforts to promote the area’s stunning natural beauty, according to the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration
For eight days, visitors can stroll along illuminated paths to see the park’s trademark Queen’s Head and other rock formations, which are set to be lit up for a sound and light show held every 30 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
A concert featuring classical and pop music is also scheduled Oct. 3, during which a six-minute animation documenting the evolution of the park will be projected on a giant rock.
According to the NCGNSAA, night tours were first trialed in April 2018, and they have since become one the most popular attractions among visitors from home and abroad, helping to boost local tourism.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s night tours were postponed for nearly six months, the administration said. While a tour cost NT$200 (US$6.84) in 2019, visitors to the latest edition need only swap two eligible receipts issued in September or October in exchange for an admission ticket, it added.
The Queen’s Head is one of the most famous attractions in Yehliu and often rated a top national tourist draw. Its unique shape, said to resemble the U.K.’s Queen Elizabeth II, is the result of over 4,000 years of differential erosion by the sea. (SFC-E)
