The Central Epidemic Command Center announced new quarantine measures for incoming passengers Jan. 6 as part of ongoing government efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Taiwan and safeguard public health.
Starting Jan. 15, in addition to a negative real-time polymerase chain reaction test for COVID-19 issued within three days of boarding, incoming passengers must present an affidavit stating the site of their 14-day mandatory quarantine. This must be at a designated hotel, government facility or the individual’s residence on the condition they live on their own.
As a large number of arrivals can be expected during the Lunar New Year holidays next month, the CECC said the government is releasing between 1,500 and 2,000 rooms at several group facilities for mandatory quarantine.
Reservation at these facilities will be open online from Jan. 8, with passengers required to ride in a designated transport vehicle to the site after entry to Taiwan, the CECC said. Rooms will cost NT$2,000 (US$70.41) per day, with accompanying children under 12 staying for free.
Latest CECC statistics reveal Taiwan has recorded 819 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths, including a 253-day streak without a domestic infection running from mid-April to December last year. (SFC-E)
