Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu hosted a video call with Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Claude Joseph April 13, with the two sides discussing cooperation between Taiwan and the Caribbean ally across a range of areas, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Taiwan is willing and able to share its experience in managing the COVID-19 pandemic with Haiti while continuing to work together on projects spanning education, energy and public health, Wu said. He also invited Joseph to visit Taiwan in the future to enjoy the hospitality of the country’s people.

In response, Joseph thanked Taiwan for its long-standing support of Haiti’s development efforts as well as its pandemic response. As a trusted friend, Haiti will continue speaking up for Taiwan in the international arena, he added.

Joseph also took the opportunity to send regards to President Tsai Ing-wen and the people of Taiwan on behalf of Haiti President Jovenel Moise, as well as offering his sincere condolences to those injured or who lost loved ones in the Taroko Express train derailment earlier this month in the eastern county of Hualien.

The ROC (Taiwan) and Haiti established diplomatic relations in 1956. The two sides will hold an array of activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of official ties this year, the MOFA said. (YCH-E)
