A memorandum of understanding on meteorological cooperation with ROC (Taiwan) diplomatic allies was recently inked by International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and the Central Weather Bureau.
Under the memorandum, Taiwan will share advanced technology and expertise, as well as assist in mitigating the impact of extreme weather events while creating conditions for sustainable socioeconomic stability.
According to TaiwanICDF, the country’s weather forecasting prowess will enhance allies’ capabilities in processing meteorological data and developing applications spanning such areas as agriculture and disaster prevention. It will also build resilience against climate change and reduce possible loss of life and property, the agency said.
Over the past years, TaiwanICDF has successfully incorporated meteorology into a host of bilateral cooperation projects based in Central America’s Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, as well as the Caribbean’s St. Kitts and Nevis.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “Mitigating the impact of extreme weather on humankind is a global responsibility. The newly minted #TaiwanICDF-Central Weather Bureau MOU will see #Taiwan share advanced forecasting technology with diplomatic allies. Together, we can take #ClimateAction & realize #SDG13.”
Established in 1996 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taipei City-headquartered TaiwanICDF is dedicated to achieving socioeconomic progress, enhancing human resources and promoting business activity in diplomatic allies and partner nations. (SFC-E)
