Taiwan’s team has wrapped up competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with courage and honor, highlighting the country’s sports excellence, according to the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education Sept. 5.
Among athletes achieving outstanding success are table tennis player Tien Shiau-wen, who won a bronze in the women’s singles TT10 event; Yang Chuan-hui, who finished 4th in the men’s T11 long jump; and badminton player Fang Jen-yu, who also ranked 4th in the men’s SU5 semifinals.
Fang, who held the Taiwan delegation’s flag during the closing ceremony later the same day, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the games, adding that he will continue honing his skills for future events.
The SA said it hoped the “We Have Wings” theme of the opening ceremony provided inspiration to individuals with mental and physical disabilities from around the country. The administration additionally urged all segments of society to support disabled athletes as they continue to stand tall for the country on the international sporting stage.
According to the SA, 10 Taiwanese athletes competed in the sports of badminton, judo, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis and track and field in Tokyo from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5. (YCH-E)
