Taiwan and the Czech Republic signed six memorandums of understanding and cooperation arrangements on issues spanning culture, education, semiconductor technology and the museum sector, underscoring the two sides’ joint commitment to deepening exchanges, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The pacts were concluded in Taipei City during the Sept. 18-23 visit of a Czech delegation led by Sen. Jiri Drahos, chairperson of the Senate’s Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Human Rights and Petitions.
They were inked by Ke Liang-ruey, head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague; David Steinke, head of Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei; Huang Yung-tai, incumbent administrative-affairs deputy director of National Palace Museum; Hung Shih-yu, director of National Taiwan Museum; Chuang Hsueh-hua, associate dean of the College of Social Sciences at National Sun Yat-sen University; Lien Hong-yi, dean of the College of International Affairs at National Chengchi University; Michal Lukes, general director of the National Museum in Prague; and Martin Mejstrik, member of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University.
Other officials in attendance included MOFA Vice Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui; Lin Minn-tsong, deputy minister of the National Science and Technology Council; and Kao Shien-quey, deputy minister of the National Development Council.
According to Yui, the pacts pave the way for closer collaboration on culture, education and technology, as well as expanding exchanges on related issues. They symbolize the strength of bilateral ties and the importance both sides place on promoting shared values and bolstering the resilience of democratic supply chains, the ministry added.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “#Taiwan-#Czechia ties are on the up! A fruitful visit with 6 MOUs inked before Vice Minister Yui & Sen. @jiridrahos1 brings us even closer. Our partnership flourishes over a wide range of fields, all rooted in our respect for democracy, shared values & way of life.” (DL-E)
