The eighth Taiwan-EU Industrial Policy Dialogue wrapped up Nov. 29, underscoring the shared commitment of the two sides to expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing supply chain resilience.
Staged virtually, the event was co-hosted by Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua and Kerstin Jorna, director general of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW).
Wang said during her opening remarks that Taiwan has thoroughly demonstrated its economic resilience in the face of challenges like the pandemic. As a trustworthy and indispensable partner, the country is committed to building robust supply chains with the EU, she added.
This year’s event focuses on policies to enhance supply chain resilience while exploring collaboration opportunities in key sectors such as electric vehicles, circular economy, offshore wind farms and small and medium-sized enterprises, the MOEA said. The two sides agreed to further develop existing cooperation on renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions, the ministry added.
According to the MOEA, the EU is Taiwan’s fifth-largest trading partner, with the bilateral trade totaling US$68.7 billion in 2021. In terms of investment, the EU has become the largest source of foreign direct investment in Taiwan, the ministry added. (DL-E)
