A forum enhancing public-private partnership to promote exchange between local nongovernmental organizations and their international counterparts was staged in Taipei City Dec. 5, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Themed Challenges and Opportunities: Taiwan’s Public-Private Partnerships in Promoting Peace and Justice in Global Governance, the one-day event involved 200-plus NGO leaders and experts from home and abroad. Topics spanned partnership to defend human rights and democracy, gender equality advocation and raising the country’s profile as a hub for international NGOs.
In his opening address, Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui said Taiwan will enhance public-private efforts to demonstrate to the international community the Taiwan Can Help ethos and the country’s civil society capacity.
Following his remarks, Otmar Kloiber, secretary general of the World Medical Association, called for Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Organization. The country’s exclusion from the global health system is unfair and hurts both the people of Taiwan and the international community, he added.
Launched in 2020, the forum serves as a major platform to boost cooperation and exchanges between local and foreign NGOs and strengthen partnership between the government, businesses and civil society groups. (DL-E)
