A delegation comprising members of the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Group began their Taiwan visit Dec. 5 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Led by group Chair Waldemar Andzel, the delegation included Vice Chairs Violetta Porowska, Jerzy Polaczek and Cezary Grabarczyk, as well as fellow parliamentarians Jaroslaw Krajewski, Dobromir Sosnierz, Agnieszka Soin and Bozena Zelazowska.
During their five-day stay, the lawmakers will have an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen and stop in at the Legislative Yuan, Mainland Affairs Council, MOFA and National Development Council.
To better understand Taiwan’s cultural, economic and technological developments, the group will visit key facilities such as Hsinchu Science Park, National Palace Museum, National Space Organization, Taipei 101 and Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute.
They will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, who will confer the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy to Andzel for his contributions to bilateral relations.
According to the ministry, the lawmaking bodies of the two countries have enjoyed a close relationship for years. The current visit is of particular significance as 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Taipei Representative Office in Poland, it added.
The two sides have continually expanded their ties throughout the years, the MOFA said, citing agreements on youth working holidays, air transport, reciprocal recognition of driver’s licenses, avoidance of double taxation and judicial cooperation.
Other salient examples of the robust relationship include the donation of 400,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan by the Polish government, the resolution passed in July by the Polish Senate’s Foreign and European Union Affairs and Health Committees supporting Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization and joint efforts to arrange haven in Poland for Ukraine refugees fleeing Russia’s invasion.
Building on this solid foundation, the MOFA said Taiwan will continue to expand cooperation and exchanges with Poland across the board to foster a more resilient partnership. (SFC-E)
