President Tsai Ing-wen said Dec. 6 that Taiwan and Idaho enjoy close relations and there are many areas in which the two sides can deepen and expand mutually beneficial exchanges.

Taiwan and Idaho are important trade partners, Tsai said. This is evidenced by the Idaho-headquartered Micron Technology’s increased investment in Taiwan, she added.

Tsai made the remarks while receiving Idaho Gov. Brad Little at the Presidential Office in Taipei City.

According to Tsai, economic security is a critical pillar of national and regional security. To this end, the government is committed to strengthening cooperation with democratic partners to jointly create sustainable semiconductor supply chains, she added.

Tsai took the opportunity to thank Little for speaking up for Taiwan at international events and the Idaho Legislature for unanimously passing resolutions affirming support of the country for three years running.

This is Little’s third visit to Taiwan and his first overseas trip since the pandemic began, Tsai said, adding that it not only demonstrates the deep friendship between Taiwan and Idaho, but is also significant in helping advance Taiwan-U.S. relations.

In response, Little said Taiwan and Idaho have shared a firm friendship for nearly four decades and have built many profitable ventures benefitting the people on both sides over the years. (DL-E)
