The government and people of Taiwan extend their warmest congratulations Jan. 7 to Kevin McCarthy, following his election and appointment as the new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and the U.S. share universal values of democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights and the rule of law. The two sides continue to deepen their friendship and expand exchanges in key areas including economics, trade, politics and security, the ministry added.
The government is committed to working with the like-minded partner to promote peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA said. A similar statement was also issued by Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun on his official Facebook page.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Sincere congratulations to @SpeakerMcCarthy on his election as #US Speaker of the House. We look forward to working with the firm supporter of #Taiwan & bipartisan congressional friends to further our partnership & advance peace, stability & prosperity in the #IndoPacific.” (DL-E)
