The Taipei International Book Exhibition will get underway Jan. 31 to showcase the vibrancy and diversity of Taiwan’s publishing culture, according to the Ministry of Culture Jan. 10.

Titled “The Multiverse of Reading” and running through Feb. 5, the event will showcase a wide array of content and titles from Taiwan and more than 30 other countries in the categories of general books, comic books and children’s books, the ministry added.

Poland is the guest of honor country this year and the exhibition will allow readers from home and abroad to learn more about the culture, history and publication of the East European country.

Co-organized by the Polish Book Institute and Polish Office in Taipei, the Polish Pavilion will consist of three main sections, which will feature 23 historical books, children’s picture books from 1918 to 2018 and collections and copies of historical publications.

Two Polish illustrators and six writers, including Andrzej Sapkowski and Witold Szablowski, will also give talks and take part in reading aloud at the event, the MOC added.

Among other participating nations, the six-day fair will feature pavilions from Germany, Italy, South Korea and Thailand, the ministry added. There is also a series of forums and seminars on the publishing industry as well as topics related to book design, children’s books and digital publishing.

First held in 1987 by Taipei Book Fair Foundation under the MOC’s auspices, TIBE is the leading event of its kind in Asia and among the world’s largest, alongside the Frankfurt Book Fair, Bologna Children’s Book Fair and BookExpo America. More than 250,000 patrons visited the event last year. (SFC-E)
