A total of 67 productions, including 59 shorts, five VR works and three international competition films from Taiwan are set to be screened at the 45th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France Jan. 27 until Feb. 4, according to the Ministry of Culture.

The annual event highlights a country each edition and this year, for the first time, it is Taiwan, the MOC said. The event will showcase the cultural vitality of the country through three aspects: screening of short films, a film market exhibition and a restaurant menu prepared by a Taiwan chef, the ministry added.

The Taiwan lineup for the CFISFF comprises thrillers, restored movies and university film school projects. Headlining the offerings are “The Skywalk is Gone” by Tsai Ming-liang, “Layover” by Shen Ko-shang and “On Happiness Road” by Sung Hsin-yin.

Other Taiwan films are “The Palace on the Sea” by Kyawk Dad-yin as well as VR creations “Samsara” by Huang Hsin-chein and “Red Tail” by Fish Wang. According to the MOC, movie director Ho Wi-Ding and actress Wu Ke-xi are both jury ambassadors.

First launched in 1982, the CFISFF is the world’s largest short film festival. Despite the pandemic, it attracted 6,200 submissions from 55 countries in 2022 and only 77 works were shortlisted. (DL-E)
