The upcoming visit by a delegation from the Swiss-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group is sincerely welcomed by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Feb. 2.

Set to arrive Feb. 5, the group will be led by Swiss National Council members Fabian Molina and Nicolas Walder and comprise fellow lawmakers Yves Nidegger, Mustafa Atici and Leonore Porchet, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, Molina, Walder and Atici have all proposed resolutions and policy recommendations supporting Taiwan. Among these, a resolution by Walder that demands the federal government submit reports and identify ways to expand ties with Taiwan in areas such as business, culture, politics and science passed overwhelmingly in 2021, the ministry added.

During its six-day stay, the group will be received by President Tsai Ing-wen and meet with Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun, Control Yuan President Chen Chu and Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, as well as attend banquets hosted by the LY and MOFA. The delegates will also call on the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Mainland Affairs Council, National Development Council and National Science and Technology Council.

In addition, the ministry said the lawmakers will visit Hsinchu Science Park in northern Taiwan to better understand the country’s economic and high-tech development while seeking ways to promote additional bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Taiwan and Switzerland are partners in freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, the MOFA said, adding that the visit will promote further friendly cooperation in mutually beneficial areas going forward. (SFC-E)
